Education and Back to School Supplies

Mid-summer is a good time to think about back to school supplies for your little ones/younger relatives. You may be able to find some good 2 for 1 deals or buy one get one for half price. Here are quick reminders:

  • Check last year's supplies since you may have 2 to 3 unused notebooks.
  • Look at back-to-school circulars.
  • Visit the local discount stores (ex. .99 cent store) for some great supplies ,including pens, pencils, calendars, plastic folders, and binders.

You can save time and money on back-to-school supplies by not waiting until 2-3 days before school starts.

Education and Spring Break

Children have been or will be enjoying their spring break with a one week vacation. Parents can use this time to do the following:

  • Enjoy a local spring concert.
  • Read a special story related to spring.
  • Visit the library and take out educational videos.
  • Visit local art galleries and museums.
  • Watch the history channel on television.

Education (Day/Field Trips)

As a parent/guardian, you may have wondered if the time taken to accompany your child's field/day trips is worth the effort. It may be hard especially if you have to take off of work and your are the primary provider. However, it is a wonderful experience and your child will remember your time together.

Honestly, a parent/primary guardian is not the only choice. As a child, I recall various family members/friends taking turns to accompany my classmates on trips so the main concern was that a family member/family friend gave support.

It may not be realistic to go on all field/day trips. A good idea is to review the upcoming school trip calendar or check with your child's teacher(s) to determine the day/field trip dates so there are no surprises (If an employee, see if you can switch a day with a co-worker; If you are the boss, perhaps you can work in the evening/weekend).

Remember, the memory will last a lifetime.

Education

Classroom Concepts
The school season has started for some children and as parents/guardians you may have mixed feelings. Depending on the age of the child, you may be feeling that your sweet baby is growing up too fast. As an aunt, I have watched my three sisters, my adult nephew, and my adult niece send our babies (there are 4 little boys at present) off wondering if we (yes I do take some credit) have given them the neccessary tools for school but we know how to take it day by day.

Ah! if only the joy experienced on the first day would continue until the last day. The following are some reminders for what your child may need for back to school (depending on his/her age and grade):

1) art supplies-crayons, drawing papers, pencils, pens, scissors
2) backpacks
3) cell phone
4) clothes- notebooks
5) sports uniforms
